ABOUT

Ever have a cool idea for an awesome-looking environment but struggle to know where to start? This is a feeling that all artists have experienced.
Join Mac in a short course where he’ll take you through the basics of environment design, starting with research, design, blender basics, and finally, how to combine these to create a compelling ¾ environment isometric.

Over 6 weeks we’ll go through all the tools you need to bring the ideas you have in your head to life.
For week 7, we’ll invite a special guest from the industry to do a quick presentation, and a review of your homework from the course.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

  • Understand Blender at a basic level to help visualise ideas.

  • Ability to research and consolidate a mood board within an Art direction

  • Ability to design space and props within the art direction of your game, movie set, IP, etc.

  • Ability to study and draw in a ¾ view for production.

  • Portfolio building

REQUIREMENT:

  • Beginner to Intermediate Level.

  • Basic Photoshop + Drawing skills
    - understanding of forms & 3D shapes
    - understanding perspective

  • Tools needed:
    - 2D drawing software (Photoshop, Krita, etc)
    - 3D Blender software

Course Instructor:

Mac Shao-Yen, has been working in the industry for 3+ years. He is a FZD School of Design and Brainstorm alumni. Mac specialises in environment concept art, and has worked on both in-house and outsourced projects at Passion Republic, Mirayi Animation, Glow Productions, and Humble Squid creatives.
